I dyed my hair medium brown (permanent colour) yesterday, but it is more like black!! Can I put a lighter colour over it to sort it out or do I have to live with it?? I can't afford to go to the hairdresser or I wouldn't be in this situation in the first place!

Dying your hair darker is easy enough to do yourself but dying it lighter is trickier but totally possible. Just be really careful with the application to make sure it's even. Any home-color-kit that you find will be based on a natural hair color, which yours is not and so the intended color may be slightly different. Buy the color you want and a chocolate brown aswell. It means that if you mess it up, you can just re-color it again. Dying your hair darker won't damage it too much anyway.
If you can't afford a hair-colorist, you should try calling the salons and asking them if they have any student nights. The good salons will have one night a week where they have the students in and are closely monitored by the pros. If you make an appointment with one of the students in the salon, it'll cost you about 1/2 the price, but nothing can really go wrong because the actual colorists are standing guard and watching in case they look like they're gonna make a mistake. Either this or call the beauty colleges near you. They usually charge very little and welcome hair problems to solve because it's something they really need to learn. Again, their teachers will be there to make they they don't mess up.
Hope this helps!

Oh horror! I did this once too...no..a lighter colour will not work...I washed mine with Fairy washing up liquid about four times and it did take some of the pigment out....a lighter dye wont touch it...you'll have to put up with it or go to the hairdressers sadly.

think your best off trying to get used to the colour just try washing it several times it may tone it down a bit or just ring up a hairdresser and ask for advice they will tell you and you dont have to make an appointment

There are few ways to make your hair lighter ,
First take some lemon and cover your hair in it , then take some sun cream and put that in your hair.Go and lounge in the sun 4 about 30 minutes. Then wash the sun cream and lemon out of your hair it will gradually go lighter.
Now take a "dirty Blond" coloured hair die and die your hair with that you should get a good blondish brownish colour again. And if you want your hair to go darker again save up and go to the hair dressers.Hope Ive helped :)

Wash your hair in fairy liquid this strips the colour but make sure you condition it good and proper afterwards. The colour will fade eventually, even if the packet says permanent it isn't and usually lasts 6-8weeks. If you can't afford to get your hair done at a salon, why not get in touch with a local college that does hairdressing and see i they want models... Some colleges do, also some hair salons want models (but they usually use their own apprentices - worth a try though). Get a couple of pics taken of your hair as it normally is and send it off... you never know :)

ok first it will fade in a week or so, but wash your hair everyday with anti-dandruff shampoo, it takes the colour out quicker like it will fade it. goodluck

try washing your with hair vosene shampoo..it isn't expensive, it's about a pound i think..you'll get in a chemist or supermarket. it gently strips colour from your hair whilst causing no harm to your actual hair. it doesn't work miracles but it should lighten it up a bit. i know of several hairdressers who have recommended it.. try it out.

Tint won't lift tint, so you can't use a lighter colour. wash your hair using head and shoulders shampoo, it will fade quicker. Had your hair been previously tinted? if so it would have grabbed the colour quicker, so you shouldn't have left it on so long.

I know its frustrating but there is only really repeated washing that will lighten the colour. I once did something similar so then tried to but a lightener on it and the result was a nasty gingery/gold colour, definitely best to let it fade!!

dont stress the more u wash it the faster it will fade also get out in the sun if u can wash ur hair a few times in between other washes with anti dandruff shampoo it will help strip the colour out

A hairdresser told me to try this when it happened to me. Trust me - This works better than anything. Wash hair with warm soapy water, no shampoo. Then take a bowl, mix 2tblsp of fairy with a dash of malt vinegar and some lemon juice. Top up with a little boiling water and then add 1 tsp sugar. Mix well and then use the mixture as normal to wash your hair with. You will still have enough mixture to wash hair again. Repeat the following night and it will be alot lighter than doing loads of washes with normal shampoo. Trust me, something to do with natural citric acids and that breaking down the coulouring faster.

no worry.
my fringe turned black [was meant to be dark brown]
and i went to the hairdressers mind you haha!
the more you wash it the more the colour will settle dont worry.
pluslike, my fringe was blonde before. so it REALLY lightened up.
if your colour was bleached before itll help it dye down.

If you used it before and it was ok, then it should have been ok again. I would call the customer helpline and ask for more information.
Or, you could wash it again and see if the colour lightens

You have a 48 hour window before the hair dye 'sets'. Wash your hair repeatedly in Head and Shoulders or a similar anti dandruff shampoo and leave the foam on your hair for a few minutes each time. You can also use Clarifying Shampoo. Pantene do one. When this happened to me I washed it about five times at a time over two days and most of it came out. Good luck. You have half an hour til Asda closes.

go back to the store and buy a colour that is 3 shades lighter that should bring the colour down to med. to light brown. good luck hope this helped. try getting a med. or dark blonde. trust me it won't turn your hair blonde.
