Hey, so I really want to dye my hair a dark and deep shade of red for college. I have medium brown hair and I haven't dyed my hair in over a year. I really want this color to be dramatic and as close to the color on the box as possible. As a result I have a box of Beyond Bleach White Out Kit from Hot Topic. I am wondering if I should possibly bleach it beforehand. I've heard horror stories about bleaching but I was planning to wait 14 days (as advised on the box) before moving ahead with dying my hair red. My hair is thick and pretty healthy and tolerant to dyes, which I haven't done in a long time. I have never bleached my hair however. Is there any reason I should not bleach my hair to achieve the color I want? Is my procedure relatively safe? Below are two images, one of my hair dye, and the other of my current hair to date.

No, there is no need to bleach it. If you bleach your hair it will become porous and the red will not stay in. Red is the color that fades the fastest as it is,you don't want anything making that worse. Your hair will look much healthier and prettier if you just put the red color on it.

Bleaching it might just give you a orange or pink color. Just leave the dye in a extra long emount of time. Bleaching just makes things worse.

i personally dont know i would go to a sallys store and ask them they normally have licenced hair stylist that work there and they would be able to tell you what you should do and you could buy your hair color there its normally just as cheep as wal mart or whatever and its a million times better.
