I have naturally medium brown hair, but I have been dying it blonde for a long time (very light blonde). I liked it like that but I wanted to go a little darker so it looks more natural and so people couldn't see a strong root line... but I still like blonde.
I went to an Aveda salon and they used bleach alternated with a level seven lowlight in my hair...but when I left there was still a line where my roots were. Right now (this was two weeks ago) my hair is about a medium blonde, but you can see the brown roots and they look pretty obvious to me. They were obvious pretty much when I left the salon, actually...
Should my hair have looked like this? And is my hair too dark to have blonde? I have seen many people with natural hair darker than mine who have blonde hair that looks good. Do I need to ask the stylist to do something in particular?

you should go blonde.

i think it depends on the stylist..maybe she didn't want to place the bleach so close to your scalp because it causes it to burn and scab.

Your hair is not too dark to be blonde. There are those with jet black hair (Shakira is a prime example) that have colored their hair blonde. The problem is that the farther a person goes from their natural haircolor, the harder the upkeep on the color will be. You should color your hair a natural, sometimes called "dirty" blonde shade. It has a light brown base, with medium and dark blonde highlights through it. This might keep your roots from looking as obvious only a couple of weeks after coloring it. As for your other question, your roots shouldn't have been visible right after you had just had your hair colored, especially since it's done professionally. I would use a different haircolorist. Hope that helps!
