Can hair naturally keep getting darker as you age a bit more? (Read for more info)?

At what age does your hair stop getting darker?

Well I know your hair gets gray and then white when you're in yours 40-50s or maybe before (duh!) But... when I was born and as far as I can remember (like at age 4-5) I had light-medium brown hair and now, at 16, I have very dark brown hair that looks almost black... is there a chance that my hair might become darker or even black? When does hair usually get its permanent color (until it whitens, that is...) My dad had jet black hair and my mom had medium to dark brown hair.

Yes, I think it's common for blondish hair to go darker as you get older. That's why you see all those women getting their hair colored and highlighted in beauty salons! Mine went from a light-brown or ash blonde to a dark brown.

EDIT: yes, it probably started around my late teens

I think most people's hair gets darker as they get older. My hair was very blond as a kid and then got darker as I got older.

Mine started falling out in my mid-thirties so I can't help you with the question about when it stops :-)

My daughter and I were both blondes when little. She is now a light brown, I am dark brown. My dad and mom's hair was once (LOL) black.

Yes, it's true. European hair that starts off blonde or light brown usually gets darker as people get older. In Australia, Aboriginal children sometimes have brown hair and even close to blonde, but it turns black or almost black when they get older. There's probably a good reason for it but you'd need a human biologist to tell you why.

From the time I was a toddler until I was in my mid 50s my hair was ash blonde. I started taking steriods for asthma %26amp; my hair started darkening gradually. I am now in my 60s and the color is a very dark brown with only a small amount of grey. From medical sources (a doctor and a nurse), they advised me that this darkening was caused by my medications.

Has anyone else had this happen to them?
