so my natural hair color is dark brown...but i have dyed it several times. so now its light brownish blonde. but whenver i dye it darker (because i dont like it too blonde) it always goes back to this brassy blondish brown color? isn't this weird? especially since my natural hair color is brown?

So i want medium brown hair but i dont know how to do this since it keeps going back to this same color after a while no matter what color treated conditioner i use or if i dont go in the pool or if i go the salon....(but it usually lasts longer)!

what you need to do is go a shade darker than the color you desire or maybe even two depending on how fast it fades , also use a color shampoo and conditioner with UV safe in it,, it just helps protect hair color from the sun sorta like a sunscreen for the skin, and buy hair styling products with the UV protection in it also you'd be surprised how many products that have it in there but with those few steps it shouldn't fade so quickly but over time you are going to have to touch it up.

your hair will keep stripping color whenever you wash it, and whenever you go our in the sun. Honestly there arent any products which can lock in the color. but you can minimise the effect by using a shampoo for color treated hair. avoid a lotta sun. And you will be fine.

You need to put in the filler first. You can get it at a beauty supply shop. They can help you get a good haircolor there too. Other than that you could just have it done professionally. Also as well as your color trated conditioner,you need shampoo for color treated hair.

hi there. Hopefully this helps, I personally have have long golden brown hair, that happens to be very thick and frizzy so i can understand the whole straighting part because I do it also.

anyways,

I think I would do meduim brown with light brown (maybe somewhat sunkissed) undertones. Keep in mind you only want to go 2 shades lighter than your natural hair color and 2 shades darker than your natural hair color without looking fake. I think if you dye your hair with dirty blonde your putting more bleach in your hair rather then if you would do the light brown.

What works for me when i get my hair dyed is I use Catwalk shampoo and conditioner called comfort food for damaged hair and it tends to make your hair silky and not so frizzy!!

I have been using a great product for my hair made by Loreal. It's a hair conditioner that comes in a pink bottle that has the word silk in it. I'm not at home, so I can't run and look at the actual bottle. I have very fine long hair, and it has given my hair so much body, and it does feel nice and silky to the touch. In my opinion hair sprays and gels just add build up to your hair, that often doesn't wash out easily.

First of all, way to go for not straightening it! Embrace your curls.

As for my personal suggestion, here's what I do. After I get out of the shower, I LIGHTLY towel dry my hair. Then, I squirt some mousse into my hands and run it through my hair and scrunch. (Sometimes I need more than 1 squirt.) Any kind of mousse will do, I think. You don't need the expensive kind. Then I usually follow up with Herbal Essances spray gel over that and let it air dry. (For me, blowdrying makes me look like Bozo the clown, but in the winter, you might want to dry it before going out.)

Then, for extra help on those frizzy days, I have been using Biosilk Silkening Balm AFTER ITS COMPLETELY DRY (not before or it gets sticky.)

Finally, if your hair doesn't work well with this procedure, since all curly hair is a bit different, check out www.naturallycurly.com. It's a great site with all kinds of advice, and will make you feel better about your curls.

My hair is EXACTLY the same. What i do is:

- wash it with extra conditioning products

-put oil through only the ends when its damp

-braid it tightly to keep the curl and frizz down at night

-in the morning, once its dry, i blow dry the inside and the curled ends as straight as possible with out a flat iron

-then use a light oil hair lotion on the ends and frizzies

This turns out more wavy than curly, and blow drying the inside makes it appear longer than the rest of your hair and takes away some of the body.

After these steps I usually wear some my hair twisted back, or pin my bangs kind of to the side and back.

I have naturally medium brown hair, but I've been a blonde for awhile now. My roots have grown out about 3/4 of an inch, and I would rather go darker than lighter. In fact, I'd like to go very dark brown, possibly even black -- I just want something different.

However, in the past, my hair sometimes has a hard time holding dye -- but its only been with red. Permanent red dye washes out of my hair. But the only colors I've ever ever used on my hair are different shades of blonde, copper, and red.

My real question is -- if I were to go extremely dark, will the dark dye cover what has been previously dyed blonde? And am I at risk for having dark brown/black dye wash out like the red?

Yes. In my experience most fade. I would gradually build up the colour maybe 2-3 pemanants to get you to your desired shade and then semi permanents to top-up/ hold the desired colour. You need to find a brand that works for you or get advice from your hairdresser.

No color fades faster than red, but any hair color is gonna fade after 4 or 5 wks and especially since your hair is blonde. But if your aim is to get it back to your natural color dying is the way to go. One new product I tried was Wei Fig conditioning cleanser - it looks/feels like conditioner but it used like a shampoo (or a leave in conditioner). It doesn't lather (many products that lather actually dry your hair out) so I use it every other day but use it as a leave in conditioner every day. My regular everyday shampoo is also one that contains moisture. I switch from Abba to Suave coconut. Coloring your hair also makes it more dry or damaged so I would use a nonpermanent color if you do color your hair.

i really don't think that is possible. the darker your hair, the paler your skin looks. maybe you could get lowlights (like medium brown) so the color won't be so overpowering.

I've got the same type of hair and face as you! Try for a cut just above shoulder length, that way when you let it curl it won't be too short, and when it's straight it'll still look good. And go for long, sideswept bangs that land just below your cheekbones, so that you don't draw attention to the widest part of your face.

Ok i know how to, like i have a flat iron and i use it, but it doesn't last long, few minutes later its puffy and ugh. i use a good shampoo and conditioner, have oily hair (i dont know if it matters) and have a lot of hair so its gets really puffy ( not afro like but like if i dont straighting it looks really puffy/straight type)

ok my hair poofs too and i always have to deal w this in the summer i will straitin my hair and walk outside and its poofy! ugh! so heres my trick, make sure you get every strand strait i start w the bottem of my hair and straitin that well all my other hair is in clips and i just straitin my hair by taking a little hair at a time making sure i get all the way from the root to the tip. when your done doing every section use a hair product you can put over dry hair that keeps it from frizzing (use a thick creamy substance not something liquidy) and run it through your hair especially the ends, it should do a good job and if u notice ur hair poofing just make sure you wait lik a half hr or shorter after you straitin it and run the straitner ovr it again, it helps me

stop using so much stuff!!! That is why your hair lost its natural shine! Too much hair stuff(a.k.a. CHEMICALS) will dry out your hair and s...l...o....w....l....y but surely take all of your hair. and that would suck BIG time hearing that you have awesome hair! Try taking a comb and wetting it w/water and then brushing thru it then ( i know i just said not to but there are exceptions) put some hair spray on your comb and brush thru it. Always wash your hair and w/ shampoo make sure you kind of like scratch your head while you have shampoo on your hands. It will get everything your hair needs inside to the roots. use this link to buy thi shampoo. you will have bright and shiny and healthy hair in no time! If you have any more questions i would love to help! And i know the shampoo smells but wear extra Cologne to hide it. In no time you can use regular shampoo that doesnt smell but this will help your hair until then.

I agree with the other answerer, you should talk to your stylist about what they suggest. Just don't let them talk you into something short since you just said you want to keep your hair long. Also if you think your thick eyebrows could cause problems with certain hair styles, you could always have them waxed (not too thin - that's not good) while you're there. Dont forget about coloring your hair either! my friend has very long hair - she loves the length but gets bored with it, so she likes to color her hair to spice it up.

you can buy a product to help hold curl use a little of that and then dry your hair using a defuser.. i find it works great i have a little natural wave to my hair and i just use mousse and dry my hair with my defuser and it works great .. you can buy them almost anywhere they come with the hair dryer..Good luck

I have never had a short hair cut. I have medium length hair and pull it back alot. I like to style it on the weekends. I am thinking of the Victoria Beckham style. My question is what do you all short haired people do when you work out or are in a hurry or are working hard and don't want your hair in your face? And what if you don't have time to style it and then your hair is too short for a pony tail or a butterfly clip? (I am a farmer so I work hard and also have two kids with my loving husband. I think your idea sounds great, I've actually been contemplating the same combination. I also have naturally medium brown hair but I have lighter skin than you and blue-green eyes. Either way I think the brown with black combination would capture the funky essence of the idea but still be subtle. A few freaky hairs (dark & thick) amongst normal hair?

I have pretty normal thickish hair that I am quite happy with. In the past few years I noticed however that I have some hairs which are just really different from my normal hair. They are really dark and thick and black (I have medium blonde hair). Usually I just pull them out. I guess-estimate they make up around 3-4% of all my hair? Just wondering if anyone else has this phenomenon going on with their hair....or if they know what causes it? thanks

I think it is just split ends that have travelled all the way up the hair and split to the roots..they've become brittle. I am not sure if there are any remedies for this but try using a deep conditioning treatment.

About 6 months ago I got a perm...The girl who did it really screwed it up by leaving it in my hair too long.. It damaged it and even left a burn mark on my forehead and on the back of my neck if that tells you how much it did to my hair!.. Anyhow, it fried off a lot of my hair and I had all of these little hairs sticking up throughout my hair that has finally grown out so they lay down now...I had medium/long hair.. but had to get it cut up past my shoulders because it was all dead!...Anyhow, now it's still frizzy.. it is a lot healthier looking though but it frizzes so I don't ever blow dry it.. I straighten it every once in awhile to make it look thinner (as it is really thick.. and I get it thinned out quite often)... Is there any product that I can get that will help thin/unfrizz my hair??..Or even any home remedy?.. I am so sick of it looking like crap!!

For a few selected days, try scrunching to do it differently. I personally despise heat tools so I use overnight curlers too. (my hair is dead straight) If you're going to the salon soon, try doing a different type of bangs. For example, having them tapered might look nice and they will still be long. I do pigtails, braids, ponytails, and just adding cute things like barrettes, bows, and headbands to my haair. Hope I helped! Good luck!

Well i used to have the same problem. I striaghten my hair like everyday, i got this rlly cheap shampoo that you can find at any drug store. It is called panteene (im not sure i spelled that right.) but it is 2 in 1. shampoo and conditioner. it makes your hait less frizzy and it makes it stronger. and it leaves your hair feeling great

I use frizz ease products they work wonders, especially the serum. Straightening your hair everyday is probably the problem with your hair being dry. If you really need to straighten it that often then maybe you should try a product that works with the heat of your styling tool to make your hair soft such as Thermosilk. Also try washing your hair every 2-3 days instead of everday to help your hair retain it's natual oils. Hope this helps.

Try using a color with ash in it. Like medium ash brown. It'll take the red out of your hair. If that doesn't work, go to a stylist and they can match their colors with your natural hair color and their color is stronger then just over the counter.

Personally, I would recommend not trying to process your hair anymore by yourself and going to a professional. At this point your hair is probably over-processed and damaged so seek a professional to help rectify this before serious damage occurs to your hair or there won't be any fixing it as you will either have to let it grow out some or cut it. Short hair styles?

So I've asked this question a million times but the answers I keep getting are pictures of 1970-80's hair styles. I have some what of short-medium length hair. Its right below my chin maybe a little longer.. I need hair styles.. I either attempt to pull it up everyday or straighten it everyday.. I have medium brown hair, and a cosmetology student (who i don't exactly trust, as she is pretty much the dumbest blonde ever, lol... so ditzy. I fear for those who's hair she cuts) in my dorm told me about temporary hair color tint-stuff... the kind of thing that could make my hair a few shades darker, and a few shades redder so that for a month of two, i'd have auburn hair. I am just wondering if this stuff really works, if it washes out like she promises, and what a good brand is to use, because I want to do it with friends, not at a solon.

Firstly, she is incorrect, if it lasts a month or two it isn't temporary, it's semi-permanent. Yes, you can find darker/redder, I'd try maybe a shade or two first, to see how you like it.

She is right, in that it fades gradually, and is less damaging to your hair too. Check with a public hair supply, like Sally's, they can help you find the right color.

I want to go back to my natural medium blond hair color after bleaching my hair for years. I already found the right color and dyed my hair. The top half of my hair looks really nice, but the longer layers didn't take the color as well and the light blond shines through.

If you dye your hair with the same color your top will get darker and your bottom will still be a different color. The reason it is not working is that when you were coloring it blonde you were doing it wrong. I'm assuming that when you were lightening your hair you were lightening all of your hair, not just the dark stuff at the top. Now your bottom is over processed and isn't holding the darker color as well. I could suggest that you only re-color the bottom half but this is hard to do without leaving a definite line.

Go seek the advice of a professional. Your hair does need to be cut.. the stuff that isn't holding the color is too damages. However, that doesn't seem to be an option for you, so a stylist would be able to "fill" the damaged part and make the colors match

If you want a balanced hair color you need to go to a hair stylist. If you try to redye your hair too soon it may damage it and then you will have a real mess on your hands. Let a professional handle it.

The sun will affect your color. It's annoying but you need to leave your hair alone. If you're not willing to cut it then trim it and let your hair grow out on its own. Blond color has bleach and peroxide in it. You will eventually ruin your folicles and have cotton hair like Pamela Anderson.

so i have light-medium brown hair with lots of blond highlights so its pretty light brown specially at the bottom. I'm thinking about maybe dying my hair red or black, probably red. I want to test it out with a semi-permanent dye. Some people say though that the dye wont completely wash out especcially where my hair is blond and that it will be reddish there. is that true? also since i am very pale (pinkish), light brown eyes, long ovalish face and long hair (like 7 inches below my shoulders) and black eyebrows, what shade of red would look best? do i need to dye my eyebrows? and should my hair be cut or will i look fine with longer red hair?

If you want to see it with out committing to it- your only safe option is trying on a wig in the color you are thinking about. Those blond highlights will suck up any type of color that gets near them. If you like the look of the red I would seek out a salon that works with Framesi color. Professionally I love all the choices in red and the strength of the line. The colorist will consult with you about the correct tones for you. I would also have my eyebrows done at that time in salon. The job would only be half done without it. Your highlights will most likely need to be filled prior to coloring over. They will explain all of it.

If you do decide to dye your hair red you'll definitely need to dye those eyebrows.

There are products you could try that will wash out during your next shampoo to see if you really want to go red. You can find these products at any retail store.

Do not dye your eyebrows!! Old ladies dye their eyebrows it looks so stupid! Your highlights will probaby turn pink if you dye them red, you'll never be able to get black out of your hair either. If you want red I think you should let a proffesional go around your highlights and dye the brown red and leave the highlights, then you won't end up with pink hair. A nice crimson red or ruby red would probably go well with your skin tone. If you're going to do the brows go to a professional stylist. You should dye your hair all one color first because if you don't the blond will be a different color than the brown. If it all starts out one color it will dye as close to the same color as possible. No dye will completely wash out of your hair. With time and as new hair grows, it will gradually "remove" the dye for lack of a better word. If you're not sure about color options you should always go to a professional stylist. It may be more expensive but at least you'll get the look and color that you most want.

I notice that when I use the box from the store and even when I go to salon sometimes that my hair (the roots) will turn red/orange. I use an ash colored dye: medium ash brown. I buy my haircare products at Sallys Beauty Supply. They have an additive that you can to your hair color mixture when you are coloring your hair to stop the red.It is called Red Out. I am sure they would have this in other beauty supply stores if you have one in your town.You also would be doing better to use a professional color sense you will be getting this to color your hair.

I was wondering if I can use one of those rinse/temporary hair dyes on it (the type which last around 8 washes), in a colour close to my natural shade...

On all of the packets it seems to say "do not use on bleached/highlighted hair", would it really mess my hair up that much? Especially as I only want to go a few shades darker than I am already. My hair's in pretty good condition, but I'm growing the highlights and they sort of start an inch or so down my hair now, I don't want them to turn some dodgy color, or frazzle my hair. Sometimes too much product will make your hair heavy and tend to fall. Try the gel on damp hair/let dry or blow dry using just your finger tips pulling it up while drying or hang your head down while blowing it. Then when hair is still a little damp, put a little wax on your fingertips and pull through hair in whole strands. (do not rub in entire head or scalp) If your ends are too dry; run your fingers under water while you have wax on them. Do not brush your hair--you will lose the spikes.

Of course, I hope you have the right cut to spike your hair. It needs to be razor cut by someone that can thin it out. Good luck. It really does take practice to get the look you want!

The only non chemical that you can use is a lemon and water rinse, then air dry it in the sun. Even natural dyes have some chemicals in them except Henna.

But Henna comes with it's own problems. It leaves a residue on the hair shaft long after the color is gone and if the chemicals in dyes go over it before it's grown %26amp; been cut out, it's quite common to literally fry the hair.

You don't say what exactly happened to your hair but if you were told not to use chemicals then DON'T. If they're saying a year then I bet you they're talking about until the hair problem completely grows out. Except for the first 1/2 inch from your scalp your hair is dead no matter how beautiful. If damaged you can add conditioners to get the hair shaft to lay flat and use mousse, sprays, etc. to give it shine but you can't heal it. Though you can damage it beyond even appearances. I've seen others who have literally had clumps of hair fall out because going against the beautician's advice they tried dying it at home.

I'm a redhead and bleach reacts strangely on my color. So when I'm in the mood to go a little lighter or brighter I use a lemon rinse. Anything that takes it lighter besides this requires chemicals.
