Hair dye fading?

my natural hair color is dark brown and i want it back!

first i got highlights and they were okay but i decided to dye my hair medium blond. so i did and i liked it but i started to get roots really fast.

so i decided to dye it dark brown again (back to my original color) and just let it grow out but it faded! and now its medium-light brown! what did i do wrong and is there anyway to get it back to my natural color or will i have to redye it? if so how to keep it from fading?

Hair dye fading?

I had been dying my naturally silver salt and pepper hair (silver mixed with red and brown) a medium brown in an attempt to make me more marketable, to try and return to the workplace after being away 10 years. The last time I used a copper auburn to give me some bright highlights....what a disaster! All the hair that was previously brown went a darker brown (with some red showing in the sun). The undied roots (about 1/2 inch) turned BRIGHT CHERRY RED! I was horrified!

In an attempt to fix this mistake, I got a bleaching kit from the pharmacy. It promised to make however dark a hair turn to medium blonde, which could then be died to the desired color. I think you can imagine that the roots went almost white on some and a medium blonde on others, which was okay...but all the formerly brown hair turned ORANGE! I am not talking a pastel peach here. It could most honestly be compared to KD orange. I was in tears. My daughter went running out to the pharmacy to get a really light blonde hair color to try to mask the different shades of blonde and orange. Well, the blonde turned into different tones of ash blonde, which was good, but the orange hair turned apricot. My God, was I in despair! I'm not an ancient old lady that wants to wear her hair in pastel colors!!!

So, then I told my daughter, "You either cut all this stupid apricot off of me, or I'm going to shave my head!" She spent almost an hour getting most of the apricot off. The only place that really had any left was on the back of my head, and that was just a little of it for length. So I ended up with 1/2 inch long hair.

Since then my hair has grown another 1/2 inch. My own color coming in underneath is making it look like I've had my hair tipped blonde, which is just fine by me. I kinda like the look for the interim, but I'll be VERY glad to have my natural color back.

The moral of the story...someone else's story on hair care disasters is always worse than your own, so just be thankful and wait it out!

I am really truly speaking from lots of experience-Let it grow out Please-be very patient and just do it-----It is so worth it!!!Good luck to you!

Hair dye fading?

Its going to fade!!! I have been dyeing my hair on and off for almost 10 years, and that is what it does. Some of the brands have the root touch-up kits or the gloss kits you can buy that will help. Also make sure and get at least shampoo for color treated hair. It really does help.

Hair dye fading?

Go to a salon they can fix it, its more expensive but they can, do not shave your head!!! Use shampoo and conditioner (suave is very cheap and works)for color treated hair and maybe a glaze(john freida, walmart carries it for blondes, redheads, and brunettes.

In an attempt to fix my dying mistakes, mine ended up maroon! I'd stick with NOT dying it anymore. Just put it in a ponytail till it grows out then cut off the ends.

The more you dye your hair the worst it will look but just let it grow out. I used to dye my hair and let stay blonde but now it has faded out.

it will go back to the brown color just be patient.

I had a friends that went to a professional to get her hair done and she had died it so much that the stylist said it had different shades. She put some type of stripper in her hair to take it back to the original color. Try looking in to that. Good luck
