i want to do something new with my hair, but i have no idea where to start. i have long medium brown hair, a oval/long face, make-shift side swept bangs, wavy-ish, but i usually straighten it or wear it up. how should i get it cut ? style ? any suggestions ?

i would get choppy laters that start at around the cheekbone.

Do you want to have the option of putting it up, or do you have no fear of a short cut? Either way, lots of layers are always good. The bob is the latest 'cool' hair cut, but you'll want to make sure that it will look good on you. Just put your hair in a loose pony, and pull it up so your hair is about chin ot cheekbone level. If you want something edgier, a razor cut is one of those easy wash-n-go styles. Razor cuts can be medium to super short, so you might want to consult with your stylist.

add some layers, then just enhance your natural waves with some gel for "beachy" waves

your hair sounds like it is gorgeous already, but to update it, try some fun choppy layers that are mid length of your natural hair. This will make your long(oval) face appear to loo, well, not as long, and not focus at the length of your face.
I have this same problem, with an oval face, and trust me layers are fun to work with, they look great straight, or either way workable for any hair type. make sure that if you are getting bangs, it doesn't contrast from the rest of your hair that already has a style of its own.
The length of your bangs should depend from where your eyebrows start, your nose, or right above it. Or else, they will look a little funky.
Have fun with it, but don't go to out there, with pink hair dye,
remember hair, will eventually grow back, and though u may not feel too used to your new look, i am sure you will be turning heads, so work it!

These are a few celebs that have oval faces that might help you out with a look that's right for you: Jennifer Aniston Cameron Diaz Mariah Carey Cindy Crawford Jewel Heather Locklear Sharon Stone Uma Thurman Julia Roberts Courtney Cox Arquette Elle MacPherson Tyra Banks. This is a picture of Hilary Duff. She has a long face and I think her do is very cute. http://www.hairpedia.com/hilary-duff-pic... It looks like the new thing lately has to do with layers and side parts. If you like long hair like me than I would go with layers, fullness, and side parts. Very beautiful. I'm also seeing a lot of waves or straight dos nothing really curly. Your hairstylist can help you out also with your look that you want. Hope this helps and good luck! :)
