I have naturally medium brown hair, but I've been a blonde for awhile now. My roots have grown out about 3/4 of an inch, and I would rather go darker than lighter. In fact, I'd like to go very dark brown, possibly even black -- I just want something different.
However, in the past, my hair sometimes has a hard time holding dye -- but its only been with red. Permanent red dye washes out of my hair. But the only colors I've ever ever used on my hair are different shades of blonde, copper, and red.
My real question is -- if I were to go extremely dark, will the dark dye cover what has been previously dyed blonde? And am I at risk for having dark brown/black dye wash out like the red?

hi, here are some great tips about choosing hair color after your facial features, like eye color and things like that: http://www.jurgita.com/articles-id177.ht...

Yes. In my experience most fade. I would gradually build up the colour maybe 2-3 pemanants to get you to your desired shade and then semi permanents to top-up/ hold the desired colour. You need to find a brand that works for you or get advice from your hairdresser.

well, if you go to a salon they don't make mistakes like that and they make sure that your hair comes out beautiful and lasts awhile.

No color fades faster than red, but any hair color is gonna fade after 4 or 5 wks and especially since your hair is blonde. But if your aim is to get it back to your natural color dying is the way to go. I have just recently made a transiton from blonde to dark brown and it holds pretty well but after about 4 wks the blonde starts to show through.

The dark if black will go a little bit lighter but it will not fade like the red, and it will cover all the blonde,
the brown will also fade a little bit to a lighter brown, and the highlights will be like lighter brown highlights, but with black it will cover the blonde perfectly.
Just make sure that you put the colour right through the hair Else you will have spots.
go for it nothing funny will happen if you go darker, normally when something goes wrong is when someone goes from dark to blonde

You have to fill the blonde areas first and then apply the hair color. To avoid fading you might have to do it twice or have a post color put on. It may fade a little but not like reds... Nothing fades as fast as the reds. You should really see a professional hair sylist..they know how to do it.

I am no expert. Just sounds like your hair needs time to get healthy. If you are up in age then the grays become hard to hold the color. I have a friend and she goes a nice brown but her elderly mother goes jet black and to me looks terrible with the wrinkles.
